The Power Of Lies

This poem is a parody of the song “The Power of Love” (1985) by Huey Lewis, Chris Hayes, and Johnny Colla.

The power of lies is a curious thing
Makes one man fall, makes another man king
Turns a child into one who denies
More than an error, that’s the power of lies

Shrewder than a snake, cold like ice
Harder to control than a tyrant’s vice
Makes a good one bad, makes a right one wrong
Power of lies that carries you along

[Chorus 1]
Got no future, got feet of clay
Don’t need a conscience to live this way
They’re sly and they’re crafty, and they’re clever sometimes
But they might just wreck your life
That’s the power of lies
That’s the power of lies

First time you choose them, they might make you sad
Next time you choose them, they might make you bad
But you’ll be shocked, oh man, by disgrace
For your big house of cards has no base

[Chorus 2]
Got no future, got feet of clay
Don’t need a conscience to live this way
They’re sly and they’re crafty, and they’re clever sometimes
But they might just wreck your life

They say that all in war is fair
Yeah, but you don’t care
For you know what to do
When they get hold of you
And with a little help from some spies
You feel the power of lies
You feel the power of lies
Can you feel it?

[Chorus 3]
Got no future, got feet of clay
Don’t need a conscience to live this way
Fatal like cancer and hotter than fire
Won’t burn nothing till you become a liar
You feel the power, just the power of lies
That’s the power, that’s the power of lies
You feel the power of lies
You feel the power of lies
Feel the power of lies
