How to Dampen the Cycle of Negativity

To dampen the cycle of negativity and ill-will in the world, it helps to practice some basic and interconnected principles.

1. Forgive everyone. Forgive yourself for not being who you intended to be. Forgive yourself for falling short of your ideals. Forgive your brothers and sisters in the human race for all of the intentional and unintentional harm they may have caused you. Forgive all of creation for being or seeming to be imperfect. Forgive God if you feel that he has let you down, if you feel that he has allowed or caused your misfortune. Forgive everyone.

2. Don’t condemn anyone. Don’t condemn yourself. Don’t condemn others. If you realize that God, who knows everything about you, does not condemn you, then you will find that the condemnation of another person can find no place to rest in you. If you don’t condemn yourself, then no one else can either. Don’t condemn anyone.

3. Intend the best for everyone. Don’t consider anyone or anything to be worthless or expendable. Everyone and everything has a purpose. Don’t curse anyone or wish evil on anyone, or you will find that you have cursed yourself. Support the good purposes and potential of all of creation. Intend the best for everyone.

4. Don’t try to figure it all out. Don’t try to get everyone to follow your current idea of how life should be lived. Allow for differences. Have faith in God’s perfect plan. Let God inspire you at each moment and show you the best way to act. Don’t blindly follow rules today that you committed to follow yesterday. There might be a new inspiration today. Don’t believe that your view is the only valid or logical or rational view. Let knowledge and understanding come to you at the proper time and place. Don’t try to figure it all out.
