The Forgotten Song

This poem presents the idea that we have forgotten the song of love and praise that joins us to our Creator.

Do you remember that song of praise
That we sang when our hearts were ablaze
With the love that our Creator bestows
Through the music that only He can compose?

This music of love is what we desire
And it is all that our soul does require
But we have fallen into a swamp of fear
And we cannot now this melody hear

Creation remains complete and whole
But now, through sleeping, our soul
Has forgotten the truth of its being
And has given up knowledge for seeing

God’s creation has only chosen to see
Separate forms that cannot break free
From their loneliness and isolation
And cannot find love’s consummation

The thing we call love in this place
Is to real love an utter disgrace
For we try to love only one part
And exclude the rest from our heart

It is really our biggest mistake
To think that love can cause our heartbreak
When love is the only cure
For the heartbreak we endure

What is the nature of love that is real
And which can all of our brokenness heal?
This love asks for nothing, but always does mete
What it has to make heaven replete

This love never has nor will change
Nor requires the world to rearrange
It sees the innocence in everyone
And everything here under the sun

While we cannot this real love accept
While fear has into our lives crept
We find our fragile egos inflating
When to a special person relating

Since we fear the love of God
We search on this lonely sod
For a single individual who
Can give us what we feel is our due

But, in the end, we can only love as He
Our Creator, loves everyone equally
If we stop and try to love part
Guilt and fear will enter our heart

These physical bodies and forms
Are like some tornados and storms
That keep us from knowing real peace
As long as we fear they will cease

The body was made to keep us divided
And maintain the world as two-sided
But if these two sides ever meet
The world will at last be complete

The means of this final consummation
Is the forgiveness of all miscreation
For when we overlook all mistakes
We will see peace as creation awakes

And a memory will return to our mind
That will never again be undermined
We will remember ourselves as we are
We are love that outshines every star

Do you remember that song of praise
That we sang when our hearts were ablaze
With the love that our Creator bestows
Through the music that only He can compose?
